To Kill a Mockingbird by
Harper Lee
My rating:

Harper Lee... Would you believe if I say that at first I thought
she was a
he? :D Well, at least now I know that she belongs to the fair sex. :D
Well, for my review, I think those fancy 5 stars can summate my feelings toward this book. Racism and corruption of innocence are some of the many themes depicted in the story which the author successfully highlighted through the characters and symbols used (e.g the mockingbird).
My favorite part of the book was when Atticus Finch made his final argument in Tom Robinson's trial from which the following is an excerpt:
I have nothing but pity in my heart for the Chief Witness for the State. She is the victim of cruel poverty and ignorance. But, my pity does not extend so far as to her putting a man’s life at stake, which she has done in an effort to get rid of her own guilt. Now I say “guilt,” gentlemen, because it was guilt that motivated her. She’s committed no crime. She has merely broken a rigid and time-honoured code of our society, a code so severe that whoever breaks it is hounded from our midst as unfit to live with. She must destroy the evidence of her offense. But, what was the evidence of her offense? Tom Robinson, a human being. She must put Tom Robinson away from her. Tom Robinson was to her a daily reminder of what she did.Indeed, some people will fabricate lies to justify their own wrongdoings. Is not that a shame?
I've seen the movie and it was my very first motion picture in monochrome. :) The book and the movie both deserve those fancy 5 stars. :)
